| This tunnel is unique because it has 3 portals. During a tunnel lowering projects, SP found a concrete pad that was installed to sturdy up the walls over an active fault line. SP went ahead and blasted the floor and caused the wall and ceiling to buckle. The original tunnel portal was left in place and a new east portal was created. When UP decides to increase tunnel clearance for double stacks between Bowman and Colfax; it will be torn down. In fact, the whole tunnel could be daylighted. Track#2 Donner Pass |
