Heavy rain during the night of 10-11 December 2012 caused the Amanzimtoti River to come down in flood, which eroded the embankment where the South Coast line crosses the river at the river mouth. Both locomotives and the first two loaded wagons of an early morning southbound timber train ended up in the river mouth.
