Description:  The last car purchased by Chicago Rapid Transit Company and the precurser to the PCC 6000-series. The CTA #52 was built by Pullman-Standard in 1947 and delivered just as the CRT became part of the CTA. It eventually found a home on the Skokie Swift.

Description:  Chicago Transit Authority 6101 and 53 at the shops in Skokie, Illinois on an unknown day in July 1981, Kodachrome by Chuck Zeiler. If memory serves, this was a fan trip to the shops featuring several assorted new and newly rebuilt pieces of equipment displayed on the shop leads. The trip was timed for those of us who worked during the day, so it was late in the evening by the time the trip arrived at the shops. Many of the photos I shot were illuminated with flash (strobe).

Number 54 was built in 1948 by the Saint Louis Car Company as 5004, renumbered to 54 in 1966 for service on the Skokie Swift, repainted in 1975 for the Bicentennial. Number 75 was trailing.

Description:  There were several R 1/9 cars in the museum-in addition to the many still in service-though the museum cars were nicely restored. This is a shot of the interior, which is configured much like the BMT "D" cars. These had four doors on each side, as opposed to the Ds, which had three larger doors.
