Title:  CNJ 104 (Ex GN 1130)
Description:  Although lettered for the Central Railway of New Jersey, coach 104 was owned by the New Jersey Department of Transportation and leased to the CNJ. Built by Pullman-Standard in 1947 as Great Northern 1130, the car was originally fitted with 48 seats and was remodeled with 108 seats when sold to NJDOT in 1973. (approximate month)

Description:  Metropolitan Transit Authority-Central coach 2452 was built by Pullman-Standard in 1938 as Santa Fe 14-section sleeper HAKATAI. It was one of six Plan 4065 cars in PS lot 6532, and all of these were remodeled into 44-seat coaches 2950-2955 in 1955. They were sold to the MTA in 1970 where their capacity was increased to 78 seats and they were renumbered 2450-2455. The 2452 was retired in 1977 as a result of wreck damage. (approximate month)

Description:  Penn Central 84-seat coach 1487 was built by the Budd Co. in November 1949 as Norfolk & Western sleeper ROANOKE COLLEGE. It was one of 20 Plan 9523 10-roomette/6-double-bedroom N&W cars in Budd Lot 9660. All of these were sold to the Pennsylvania Railroad in 1963, which remodeled them into coaches 1480-1499. This car retained its same number on the Penn Central, and was sold to the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania at Strasburg in 1978. (approximate month)

Description:  BARON DE KALB was a Pullman Plan 9526 parlor caM built by Budd in November 1951 as Pennsylvania Railroad 7138. It had 29 parlor seats and a drawing room, and was one of 16 such cars built for service on the SENATOR and CONGRESSIONAL. The cars subsequentky received a food service galley, and retained their same numbers on the Penn Central. This was the only one of the 16 cars that was not acquired by Amtrak. (approximate momth)

Description:  Penn Central 76-seat coach 1519 was built by the Budd Co. in April 1949 as Pennsylvania Railroad sleeper HAMILTON INN. It was one of 50 Plan 9513 21-roomette cars in Budd Lot 9667, and the Pennsy remodeled all of these into coaches 1500-1549 in 1963. They retained their same numbers on the Penn Central, although this car still retains its Pennsy-style number at one end and a PRR Keystone emblem next to its vestibule. The 1519 became Southeast Michigan Transportation Authority (SEMTA) 101 later in 1976. (approximate month)

Description:  Amtrak power car 691 was built by Pullman-Standard in 1942 as a 48-seat coach for the Union Pacific, although there is disagreement between Bob Wayner and David Randal if its original number was UP 5331 or 5364. This was one of 30 cars in UP series 5331-5345 and 5351-5365, three of which were purchased by Auto-Liner Corp. in 1970 and remodeled into automobile carries 300-302 with the addition of large end doors. Auto-Liner converted them into Amtrak power cars 1297-1299 in 1975, and they were renumbered 690-692 in 1977.

Description:  Amtrak 695 was built by American Car & Foundry as New York Central end-door baggage car 9105. It was one of 100 such cars (9100-9199) built under ACF Lot. 2910 in 1946-47. These cars retained their same numbers under Penn Central, and the 9105 became Amtrak 1126 in 1976. Twenty of these cars went to Amtrak in 1974 and were assigned numbers 1180-1199, while an additional 46 were sold in 1976 and were suppose to become baggage cars 1120-1146 and work cars 17013-17031. The 1126 was one of four rebuilt into power cars 693-696 in 1977, which enabled locomotives without head-end power to haul Amfleet cars until enough HEP engines were available. (approximate month)

Description:  Amtrak 1038 was built by Budd in 1953 as Santa Fe 3522. All 50 of the cars in this order were delivered with outside-swing-hanger trucks, which were then swapped out for conventional trucks from sleepers, diners and lounge cars. Amtrak renumbered the car 1215 when it was wired for head-end power. Notice the non-standard red-on-white numbers, instead of the usual white-on-blue. (approximate month)

Description:  Amtrak Slumbercoaci 2028 LOCH TARBET was built by Budd in 1959 and was initially leased to the Missluri Pacific as MP 699 SOUTHLAND for operation between Washington and San Antonio. The Baltimore & Ohio also leased a pair of Slumbercoaches for this service, and when the leases expired in 1964 the three cars were sold to the Northern Pacific, where MP 699 became NP 329 LOCH TARBET. Description:  BAD AXE RIVER was a built by Pullman-Standard in December 1950 as Great Northern 1264. It was originally a Plan 4181 car with 7 duplex roomettes, 1 compartment, 3 double bedrooms and 4 sections; but was remodeled into Plan 4181A with 7 duplex roomettes, 6 double bedrooms and 1 compartment in May 1963. Only 16 Plan 4181 cars were built, 15 for the GN and one for the SP&S; and Amtrak only bought three of these (2400-2402). (approximate month)

Description:  Amtrak 2550 AIR FORCE ACADEMY was one of twelve Plan 4195 8-roomette/6-double-bedroom sleepers built by Pullman-Standard for the Rock Island in 1954. They were the only cars built with the configuration, and all of them were sold to Judge Roy Hofheinz of Houston in 1968. The cars became Amtrak 2550-2561 in 1972, which took the unusual step of renaming all of them except for this one! (approximate month)

Description:  Amtrak 2560 WRIGLEY FIELD was one of twelve Plan 4195 8-roomette/6-double-bedroom sleepers built by Pullman-Standard for the Rock Island in 1954. They were the only cars built with the configuration, and all of them were sold to Judge Roy Hofheinz of Houston in 1968. The cars became Amtrak 2550-2561 in 1972, where all but one of them were renamed. This one was originally GOLDEN SPIRE. (approximate month)

Description:  Amtrak 3202 LAUREL STREAM was a Plan 9505 6-double-bedroom/buffet/lounge built by Budd in April 1949 for the New York Central, one of eleven such cars in Lot. No. 9663. First numbered NYC 10620-10630, ten of them went into the Penn Central 4411-4423 series, and nine of these became AMTK 3200-3208. LAUREL STREAM was NYC 10628 and PC 4+13. After retirement by Amtrak in 1982 the car went into private ownership as the 800180 and is now CITY OF ANGELS. (approximate month)

Title:  AMTK 3851
Description:  Coach-lounge 3851 was built by Pullman-Standard in 1948 as New Haven 36-seat parlor car 317 DANBURY. It was one of 25 Plan W6788 cars (300-324) in Lot No. W46611. Ten of the cars were remodeled into 72-seat coaches 7200-7209 in 1964, losing their names, and were subsequently Penn Central 3190-3199. The 3191 was wrecked in 1971, but the other nine cars became Amtrak 7251-7259. Amtrak subsequently rebuilt two of these cars with 56 coach seats and a 12-seat lounge, and renumbered them 3850 and 3851. The 3851 was previously Amtrak 7257, and before that PC 3197 and NH 7207; and was retied in 1976. (approximate date)

Description:  Coach-bar-lounge 3900 was built by Budd in 1950 as Southern Pacific 48-seat divided coach 2359, with a news stand and a conductor’s desk. It was one of five such cars built for service on the SUNSET LIMITED and was renumbered T&NO 432 in 1951, and then SP 2220 in 1961. Amtrak remodeled it into coach-bar-lounge 3900 with 32 revenue seats in 1973 and renumbered it 3815 in 1976. (approximate month)
